About us

As an already fully trained hairdresser, Franz Ströher is on the way to Paris to be inspired by the latest trends in hair fashion. In 1894, the demand is already so huge that Ströher can open his first factory in Rothenkirchen in Saxony. In 1924, the Ströhers let the company name Wella – in Anlehnung an "wave" - protect at the patent office. Innovation was always the driving force at Wella: In the mid-1930s, the first hair dryers with a built-in motor were introduced, whose movable tubes allowed the head more freedom of movement during the drying process - and transformed hair care into an all-round feel-good experience. Thanks to the continued success, the company is expanding throughout Europe and also into the USA, where Wella Corporation is founded.
