Passive Adapters and Cables Passive adapters and cables rely on the host device to output and make any signal conversions. Most conversions require an active adapter. For DisplayPort if your host device supports DP++ you can usually connect up to 2 displays with passive connections. If your host device is not DP++ an active DisplayPort adapter is required.	Active Adapters and Cables Active adapters and cables have a chip that converts the signal in the cable or adapter. Convert a DisplayPort signal to your display connection type easily. Do I need an adapter or a cable?

While both adapters and cables serve a very similar purpose, knowing which is the right solution for your configuration is important.

Adapters are generally less than 8 inches in length. Adapters are a quick solution for converting your video source to your display cable connection type. If you have an HDMI port on your system, but your display has a DVI cable, an HDMI to DVI adapter is the perfect solution!

Cables are longer than 8 inches, usually measured in meters or feet. Cables are a great solution at limiting clutter or signal issues by being a single connection option. Let's say you have an HDMI port on your system and your display supports DisplayPort, you can use a single HDMI to DisplayPort cable.

The VisionTek VGA to HDMI 1.5 meter (5 foot) Active cable will convert an analog VGA signal into an HDMI signal. The 1.5 meter (5 foot) cable includes a 3.5mm audio connector that will pick up audio from your system source to output over the HDMI video/audio signal. This cable is the ideal solution for converting VGA video and sound into an HDMI signal that can be used to connect to your display, monitor, projector or HDTV.

No O/S driver required. Supports AMD Eyefinity multi-display capability. Requires external USB power source to provide the operating current of 170mA. Converts VGA signal + 3.5mm audio signal to HDMI 1.3 video and audio. Connect your VGA device to an HDMI display, TV or projector. (Not bi-directional, only supports converting VGA source to HDMI). Supports resolutions up to 1080p (1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz).
