The electronics in this cable don't do anything clever to avoid the barrel jack end stepping through 0>5V>20V, or 0>5V indefinitely if the charger doesn't have a 20V mode. It requests 20v from your PD brick. The brick provides the voltage. It must only be used with a device that supports a 20v input.
