Benefits of Dynamic Stretching

While static stretching decreases immediate muscle performance, dynamic stretching contracts the target muscle, then stretches it for immediate gains in range of motion without sacrificing muscle performance.

Most dynamic contract-relax stretches require a partner, but the TheraBand Stretch Strap was designed to support both static and contract-relax stretching without requiring additional assistance. Research shows the Stretch Strap is as effective at increasing range of motion as traditional partner stretching.

How It Works

Each dynamic stretch has a starting position and two phases: contract and relax-stretch. During the stretch, the numbers on the strap can be used to track progression of movement and flexibility. The unique design and durable material assists with pelvic stability and correct leg/torso positioning, which ensures you can repeat the same stretch each time you perform it.

Each Stretch Strap comes with detailed instructions for 15 different stretching exercises, but the number of potential exercises is limitless. These stretches help reduce the risk of injury, improve athletic performance, and decrease muscle tightness and joint stiffness.

Gastroc (Calf Muscle) Stretch

1. Sit upright with your knee and back straight. Place the stretch strap around the foot of the leg to be stretched. Your foot should be in a neutral position.

2. Grasp both ends of the strap to create moderate tension. Keeping your knee straight, push your foot downward against the elastic resistance of the strap, as though you were pointing your toes. Hold this contraction for three to five seconds.

3. Breathe out as you release the contraction and pull the strap toward you, pulling your toes toward your nose, to stretch your calf muscle.

4. Take up the slack of the strap and hold this stretch for 10 to 15 seconds. Repeat the entire process 3-5 times or as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Hamstring Stretch

1. Lie on your back with one knee bent. Place the opposite foot in the middle of the strap and grasp each end of the strap with your hands at your chest.

2. Keeping your knee straight, push your foot downward towards the floor into the resistance of the strap. Maintain your position for 3-5 seconds.

3. Keeping your knee straight, breathe out as you pull the strap and your leg towards your head, stretching the back of the thigh. Hold the entire stretch for 10-15 seconds. Repeat the entire stretch 3-5 times or as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Rectus Femoris Stretch

1. Lie on your stomach with the middle of the Stretch Strap around the foot of the leg to be stretched. Allow your knee to bend as you reach over that same shoulder to grasp the ends of the strap with the same side hand.

2. Keeping your hips flat on the ground, push the foot down towards the floor, into the resistance of the strap, as though attempting to straighten the leg. Hold this contraction for 3-5 seconds.

3. Breathe out as you release the contraction and pull the strap farther over your shoulder, pulling your heel toward your buttocks to stretch your quads.

4. Take up the slack of the strap and hold the stretch for 10-15 seconds. Repeat the entire process 3-5 times or as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Soleus Stretch

1. Sit upright with knee slightly bent and back straight. Place the middle of the Stretch Strap around the foot of the leg to be stretched. Your foot should be in a neutral position. Grasp both ends of the strap to create moderate tension.

2. Keeping your knee slightly bent, push your foot downward against the elastic resistance of the strap, as though you were pointing your toes. Hold this contraction for 3-5 seconds.

3. Breathe out as you release the contraction and pull the strap toward you, pulling your toes to your nose to stretch your soleus and Achilles tendon.

4. Take up the slack of the strap and hold the stretch for 10-15 seconds. Repeat the entire process 3-5 times or as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
