Obtaining Personalized Body Composition Measurements

After your weight, body fat%, and visceral fat has been calculated, a black bar will pop up the bottom of the display, identifying Body Fat Ranges. The Body Fat Ranges icons are -, O, +, ++ (- under, O healthy, + over, ++ obese).

Body Composition Display Process

After the measurement is taken, readings will be automatically displayed in the order listed above. An icon will light up for each result reading being displayed. After the last result reading is displayed, the weight reading will again appear, then the unit will automatically shut off. At anytime during and after the "Auto Display Process", the user may use the arrow buttons to scroll thru the different results.

Note: For children (age 7-17), the unit will only display the Weight and the Body Fat % (it will not display the Healthy Range Indicator).

What is Visceral Fat

Visceral fat is located deep in the core abdominal area, surrounding and protecting the vital organs.

Even if your weight and body fat remains constant, as you get older the distribution of fat changes and is more likely to shift to the abdominal area. Ensuring you have a healthy level of visceral fat directly reduces the risk of certain diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure and may delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.

The 9 Physique Ratings

Physique rating assesses muscle and body fat measurements and rates the result as one of nine body types. There are nine results based off the body composition measurements, hidden obese, obese, solidly-built, under exercised, standard, standard muscular, thin, thin and muscular, and very muscular. The numbers are defined as follows:

1. Hidden obese = high body fat % and low muscle mass

2. Obese = high body fat % and moderate muscle mass

3. Solidly-built = high body fat % and high muscle mass

4. Under exercised = average body fat % and less than average muscle mass

5. Standard = average body fat % and muscle mass

6. Standard muscular = average body fat % and higher than normal muscle mass

7. Thin = lower than average body fat % and muscle mass

8. Thin and muscular = low than average body fat % and adequate muscle mass

9. Very muscular = lower than average body fat % and above average muscle mass
