Our Beginnings 1905

It was along the Brittany Coast of France that St Michel Galette was created over a century ago by the Patissier Joseph Grellier and his wife Constance. Sensing the entrepreneurial opportunity, Grellier's wife, Constance, began to sell the buttery cookies to vacationing tourists at the beach. The galette quickly gained popularity and the Grellier's bakery business expanded. Today the galette is still made using the original recipe by the family-run company at St Michel. Today St Michel bake not only galettes, but other traditional French pastry classics like madeleines, palmiers and palets.

1905

St. Michel began in 1905 along the Brittany Coast of France by the patisserie Joseph grellier and his wife Constance. Constance began selling the buttery cookies to tourists at the beach. The galette quickly gained popularity and the grellier’s bakery business expanded. Today, and more than 100 years later, the galette is still made using the original recipe which is still owned and operated by the family. St Michel has expanded including other traditional French pastry classics such as madeleines, palmiers and palets. St. Michel prides itself on being – Non-GMO, using free range eggs, no palm oil, No hydrogenated oil, No preservatives. They have also partnered with the ciwf (Compassion in World farming. They only use French grown and milled wheat, French butter. They have also as of 2012 to reduce their carbon emissions. And is part of the animal welfare requirements.
