Oligofructose ist ein natürlicher Bestandteil vieler bekannter Gemüse, Frucht- und Getreidearten, wie z.B. Weizen oder Spargel. Als löslicher Ballaststoff fördert sie unter anderem die gesunde Darmflora. Oligofructose hat eine leichte Süßkraft (ca. 30 der Süßkraft von Zucker) ohne Neben- oder Nachgeschmack. Oligofructose verbessert den Geschmack von Lebensmitteln, während der Kaloriengehalt niedrig bleibt. Besonders gute Ergebnisse erzielt man bei fermentierten Milchprodukten (z.B. Joghurt oder Quark) mit Früchten, das das natürliche Fruchtaroma verstärkt wird. Das Oligofructose-Pulver ist kalt löslich und kann überall zugegeben werden, wo ein Ballaststoffgehalt erwünscht ist.
