Happy Caps is a local urban mushroom farm in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We love to grow gourmet mushrooms and we want to give you the opportunity to enjoy this fun hobby. We sell the highest quality mushroom grow kits for you to try at home.

Our goal is to be the best 'grow your mushroom kit' company on the planet and share the joy of growing mushrooms with as many people as possible.
Why have my mushrooms already started growing in the bag?

It is normal for some growth to begin inside the bag, because the atmosphere is almost where it needs to be for the mushrooms to start growing. Just remove the additional growth (carefully!) and continue with the instructions as directed on the box.

So what is mycelium?

The white stuff all over your block is called mycelium! This is what grows the mushrooms. We recommend making your cuts on the bag close to the area with the most colonized mycelium.

Oyster (Pleurotus Ostreatus) Oyster mushrooms are described as having a meaty texture and a mild + slightly woody flavor.	Shiitake (Lentinula Edodes) Shiitake mushrooms have a notoriously meaty and velvety texture with a rich buttery flavor profile.	Lion's Mane (Hericium Erinaceus) Lion's Mane mushrooms have a tender + juicy texture and they are mild in flavor, reminiscent of seafood.

Our Mythos

Grow your own gourmet mushrooms at home with our Gourmet Home Grow Mushroom Kits. Started by local urban mushroom farmers Andrew “Kobo” Kobayashi and Andrew “Hatty” Hatfield, they wanted to provide the opportunity to enjoy this fun hobby, or gift gourmet mushrooms to that gardener / green thumb friend. Our Kits grow at home and are ready in 10-14 days.

We have 3 types of gourmet mushroom kits:

Oyster mushrooms which have a mild and slightly woody flavor.
Shiitake mushrooms which has a meaty and velvety texture.
Lion’s Mane which has a mild flavor reminiscent of seafood.
