Agar Agar is a polysaccharide extracted from red seaweed (Rhodophyceae), Gelidium and Gracilaria. It is a gelling agent, making it a natural vegan substitute for gelatin, and used to thicken and solidify liquids. It is tasteless and odourless, used to create a variety of desserts, sweets, confectionery, and other foods. It is a popular ingredient in Asian cuisine, such as Anmitsu, a Japanese dessert consisting of small cubes of agar jelly. Agar Agar is high in Fibre and a source of Iodine.

ORGANIC AGAR AGAR POWDER, A VERSATILE INGREDIENT

Agar Agar is a versatile ingredient; soluble in water and heat stable, it is suitable for hot and cold dishes. To use, add Agar Agar powder to hot liquid and bring to the boil; the liquid will solidify at around 45 degrees Celsius. The amount of powder needed depends on the thickness or firmness required. For a soft-set gel, use 0.5 to 1 teaspoon per cup of liquid. For a firmer set, use 1.5 to 2 teaspoons per cup of liquid. An ideal thickener in soups or gelling agent in sweets and ice cream.
