Halva is a tahini-based, vegan treat that is made by hand with other all-natural ingredients like toasty coconut or rich pistachios.	Our seeds are sourced from Humera in Ethiopia and roasted at precise temperatures to lock in their natural flavor and exceptional nutritional benefits.	It is perfect for dessert on its own, crumbled on ice cream, baked into cookies, or as part of a cheese board.

Our Beginnings

Our three founders, Lisa, Rachel, and Monica, grew up in three different countries: Lisa in Israel, Rachel in Australia, and Monica in the USA. Their paths crossed in New York City in 2015, where they discovered a shared passion for food, cooking, and nourishing their families with healthy, quality food.

Brick by Brick

Determined to show Americans how versatile and delicious tahini and halva could be, we opened a small kiosk in New York’s bustling Chelsea Market in 2016, and became the first store in the US dedicated to sesame products. We welcomed locals and tourists from all over the world, connecting over nostalgic tastes and introduced new audiences to traditional foods, rooted in centuries of culture and history.

We worked the counter seven days a week, sampling halva, grinding tahini to order, and serving up other treats like halva paninis and our iconic tahini soft serve. Within a few months, we were blown away by the enthusiasm for our products.

From Our House to Yours

Soon after opening the kiosk, we built a website and then Whole Foods Market came knocking, looking for a halva brand with clean, natural ingredients. And, with that, our retail and e-commerce businesses were born. Today, we are proud to say that our products are beloved by chefs and home cooks alike, available for purchase nationally in grocery chains, specialty shops, on restaurant menus, and online via our shop.

Meet Rachel, Our Co-Founder & CEO

Rachel moved to New York from Sydney with her family in 2014. “I was a food entrepreneur trapped in the body of a media lawyer,” she says, and after 15 years of practicing law, Rachel found an opportunity to combine her lifelong passion for food with business, co-founding Seed + Mill with Lisa and Monica in 2016.

Rachel is the daughter of an immigrant, who was the daughter of an immigrant. “The history of food, its culture and migration, as well as its ability to bring people together over a diverse and lively table is why I love what I do!” A global citizen, Rachel has traveled the world, and lived and worked in 5 different countries. Rachel currently lives in New York with her husband and two children, Annika and Oliver, and her beloved dachshund, Buddy.

Tahini Halva Date Balls

Ingredients

1 c pre-soaked Medjool dates (remove pips!)
1/2 c roasted mix nuts (we used walnuts and almonds)
3 tbs Seed + Mill Organic Tahini
2 tbs coconut oil
Pinch of salt
1/4 lb Seed + Mill Halva (any of our flavors work great)
Coconut flakes and sesame seeds for coating

Steps

Blend all ingredients except for the halva in a food processor until smooth.
Transfer mixture to a bowl and set aside.
Chop the halva into small pea-sized pieces.
To assemble: roll a small amount of the blended mixture in the palms of your hands. Then press small piece of halva into center of each energy ball

Finally, coat each ball on a tray of coconut flakes and sesame seeds (we used a mix of toasted and raw coconut)
Place in fridge or freezer to firm up, about an hour

This recipe makes about 12 balls. They are best eaten straight from the freezer.
