Security controls on the SEAC full-face masks

Even though there is no specific European regulation governing the manufacture of full-face snorkeling masks, SEAC had its full-face masks tested by a third-party laboratory to certify the residual CO2 content while breathing.

The tests consist of measuring the residual carbon dioxide within the mask at full capacity, introducing a mixture of air with a concentration of 5% CO2 into the circuit (CH1)

Two test modes:

- 25 breathing cycle per minute with a volume of 2.5 liters per breath. The maximum CO2 limit must be 1% (CH2)

- 10 breathing cycle per minute with a volume of 1 liter per breath. The maximum CO2 limit must be 2% (CH2)

SEAC abides by two fundamental principles in designing its full-face snorkeling masks:

That's why has also developed a series of specific tests that comply with the values set forth by the following European regulations: EN 1972:2015 establishes the requirements for the design and manufacture of snorkel tubes, limited to breathing effort; EN 16805:2015 establishes the requirements for the design and manufacture of dive masks; EN 136:2000 establishes the minimum requirements for the manufacture of full-face respiratory protection masks, limited to tests checking the CO2 in inhaled air; EN 250:2014 regarding open-circuit compressed-air self-contained breathing apparatus and its components, limited to tests checking the CO2 in inhaled air, related to the full face masks or oro-nasal half masks for SCUBA diving. In the SEAC labs , batches of full-face masks are tested with Ansti machines , specifically to measure the dynamic performance of human breathing , and with specific SEAC equipment to check levels of CO2 in the air inhaled through the masks.- the user should need to employ the least possible breathing effort , comparable to natural breathing , out of the water and in a relaxing situation; - and the level of residual carbon dioxide CO2 inside the skirt while inhaling must be well below the safety limits .

Unica is the full-face snorkeling mask designed and manufactured by Seac. It allows you to explore the world below the water’s surface, breathing naturally through your nose and mouth. Exhaled air is vented through an exclusive patented system located in the front of the mask to make exhaling effortless and eliminate the noise that purge valves make. A separated channeling system for inhaled and exhaled air prevents the lens from fogging. The snorkel features a Dry Top to prevent water from entering the tube. Full-spectrum view, with a 180° field of vision. The liquid silicone skirt and polycarbonate frame and lens offer enormous comfort. A comfortable and flexible retaining strap holds the full-face mask to your head. An efficient water purging system uses a dump valve in the lower part of the skirt.

The Seac Unica has a safety valve at the top of the snorkel that prevents water from entering in case of accidental immersion. It has a bright coloured tip to ensure that it is visible on the surface. Seac Unica has a facial skirt made from an hypoallergenic liquid silicone. The retaining straps are made from an elasticated fabric that are integrated into the mask to ensure comfort and perfect fit. he Seac Unica full face mask has a wide frame made of polycarbonate that allows a 180° panoramic vision without fogging up, thanks to the separate inhalation and exhalation channelling system.
