WHAT IS BILTONG Biltong is crafted from Beef which has been sliced, marinated and slowly dry air cured in a protective environment; we have simply enhanced the techniques of the South African Pioneers to bring you a rich Beefy snack that is soft and flavoursome, delicious and nutritious. It's made with just a handful of all natural ingredients, with minimal processing and no added artificial colours or flavourings. The result is an amazingly tasty ready to eat savoury snack that's is high in protein, low in carbs and sugar.
WHERE DOES BILTONG COME FROMBiltong is a centuries old process of curing and air-drying meat that originated in South Africa. In a time before refrigerators and freezers it was used to preserve meat and provide sustenance for future meals. Air-drying retains the meat's core nutrients and flavour making it an excellent source of protein and all nine essential amino acids. We like to think of it as the original protein bar!
WHAT MEAT DO YOU USE TO MAKE BILTONGTo make great tasting biltong you need great meat. We therefore only use prime cuts of silverside grass fed beef. Our company ethos also dictates that our beef is responsibly sourced from certified UK and Irish farms. High quality animal welfare produces the highest quality meat and without that we wouldn't be able to make our award winning biltong. Remember, this is "Biltong Without Compromise".
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BILTONG AND JERKYJerky originated in North and South America and is also a process for preserving meat. The main difference though between Biltong and Jerky is that biltong is air-dried whereas Jerky is cooked or dehydrated. Biltong retains more of its natural fibres and nutrients and is often lower in sugar making it the healthier snack. On average it takes 250g of meat to make 100g of Biltong and 200g of meat to make 110g of Beef Jerky
