Our star anise oil is the essential oil made from the star-shaped fruit of the Illicium Verum tree. Rich in anethole, this ingredient adds a licorice-like scent and taste to baked goods, candy, or beverages. Star anise oil for baking is used to flavor both sweet and savory foods. The taste of licorice is a traditional ingredient in biscotti, springerle, and pizzelle cookies, as well as candy. star anise oil, sometimes called anise star essential oil, is also prevalent in Chinese and Japanese dishes, where it adds a depth of flavor as well as sweetness. This natural food grade essential oil is also used when curing meats such as pepperoni or sausage.

Because of the high anethole content, star anise essential oil can crystalize at cool temperatures (below 59 degrees F./15 degrees C.). If this happens, simply warm the star anise oil until it is liquefied and shake.

Pure Anise Oil is derived from star anise, a star-shaped fruit. It grows on an evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia. This essential oil smells and tastes like licorice. Anise is a key ingredient in Chinese and Japanese cooking. It'ss also used in cured meats like pepperoni. On the sweet side, anise is found in biscotti, springerle, pizzelle, and candies. NOTE: Pure Anise Oil solidifies at temperatures below 59 degrees F. If this happens, warm the anise oil until it is liquefied and shake. Pure Anise Oil is a potent ingredient and much stronger than an extract. Use sparingly. We recommend that gloves and eye protection be used when handling essential oils.
