Frankincense essential oil is often extracted from the gum or resin of frankincense or olibanum trees, whose scientific name is Boswellia Serrata. The primary components of this essential oil are alpine pinene, actanol, bornyl acetate, linalool, octyl acetate, incensol and incensyl acetate. Boswellia serrata is a plant that produces Indian frankincense referred to in Sanskrit as shallaki and in Latin as Olibanum Indicum. The plant is native to much of India and the Punjab region. Frankincense serrata aroma is rich resinous, pine cone, dry woody, dry pine, with a lemony finish. This aroma sums up the aromatic environment of smelling a pine tree (maybe P. nigra) in the summer, the sunshine warming the tree, and in turn, the tree gives off that robust resinous aroma that saturates the air. Works very well generally within the Mediterranean themed pine bases, pairs especially well with Aleppo pine, add extra belly to amber creations and fits well within citrus and forest accords.
