A LOW-CALORIE, HIGHLY FUNCTIONAL FIBRE Polydextrose powder is a soluble prebiotic fibre used as a low-calorie food bulking agent and thickener. Also known as poly-d-glucose, is a non-digestible carbohydrate made through the condensation polymerisation of dextrose (glucose). With the texture of sugar it is used to add a significant boost in fibre and bulk to food products, improving texture and mouthfeel without a chalky or grainy feel. Thanks to its high stability, low viscosity and neutral taste, polydextrose can be incorporated into a wide variety of food applications. It is a source of dietary fibre that can be added to sugar-free, no-added sugar, or sugar-reduced dishes and products, like: cereals, snacks, chocolate bars, baked goods, dips, dressings and sauces, dairy products, beverages, and nutrition supplements. While it is sometimes found in low-calorie sweets and desserts, it does not contribute much sweetness when added, therefore it should not be considered as a type of sweetener.
