How we got our start

pedag was founded by Hartmut Schelchen, who established his reputation by making high quality insoles, orhtotics, shoe care products and shoe trees. In 1975, the company's original brand name HS Schuhbedarf was changed to pedag Intl. "pedag" is derived from the Latin word pedes, meaning foot.

pedag products are hand made in Germany from natural materials, such as cotton, bamboo, leather, cork, silver ion, wool and shearling. During a rigorous quality hand making process only water-based skin friendly adhesives are used. Leathers are vegetable tanned and no solvents are applied.

Are waxed laces not exactly what you're looking for? pedag has everything from plain and serviceable leather and linen, to fancy ribbon ties. Multiple colors, or just black and brown. These laces are made from a high quality woven cotton blend, and waxed with paraffin. Ends are secured with plastic aglets. Laces come in three colors: black, dark brown, and light brown. Made in Germany. Waxing laces makes them stronger, less stretchy, and adds water resistance. Traditionally used with dress shoes, these features make them a great choice for shoes and boots regularly exposed to bad weather, like construction or hiking boots, sneakers, athletic cleats, and more. No matter how tight you tie these laces, they're designed to be just as easy to untie, so you won't have to fight to get your footwear off at the end of a long day. The easiest way to determine the best length for your needs is to measure the length of your current laces. If your laces are broken and missing, the traditional method is also fairly simple. Count the pairs of holes or eyelets. For 5 to 6 pairs, choose the 36" length. For 6 to 8 pairs, choose the 48" length.
