Whistle Stop Cafe Fried Green Tomato Batter Mix has soared in popularity due to its great taste, ease of use, and its versatility. Bill and Mary Jo McMichael bought the Irondale Cafe in 1972 from Miss Bess Fortenberry, Fannie Flaggs Great Aunt. It sat 36 people. Over the years word spread of the delicious home cooking at the little cafe next to the tracks in old Irondale, Alabama. They expanded to a capacity of over 220 with lines out the door. In 1986 Fannies novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe came out, the cafe became known as the Original WhistleStop Cafe. The McMichael Family developed the now famous line of delicious mixes and seasoning in 1993 that are now sold in some chains and to over 2000 independents grocers and markets in 48 states.
