Traditionell werden Pflanzenauszüge im Mazerationsverfahren hergestellt. Dabei wird die frisch geerntete, einjährige Wurzel der Wilden Karde sehr klein geschnitten und in ein Gefäß gefüllt bis der obere Rand erreicht ist. Danach wird alkoholische Trägerflüssigkeit – ebenfalls bis zum oberen Rand – zugegeben und das Gefäß verschlossen drei Wochen „mazeriert“. Der Bio-Alkohol löst in dieser Zeit die benötigten Stoffe aus der Wurzel. Weil dabei Pflanze und Flüssigkeit in gleichen Volumenanteilen verwendet werden, spricht Herr Storl von einer Volltinktur im Ansatzverhältnis von 1:1.
