Sandra Velasquez was raised by her Mexican immigrant parents in California near the US-Mexican border. Growing up, nopales were everywhere. Her family harvested them in their own backyard and cooked them for dinner. Later, Sandra began sourcing nopales for her artisan bath and body products—and Nopalera was born.

Sandra launched Nopalera from her Brooklyn apartment while working three jobs and caring for her daughter during the pandemic. She threw herself behind the Nopalera mission, combining the ancient technique of hand-poured soaps and lotions with her modern sense of beauty and style.
