Crazy Korean Cooking Non-GMO Gluten-free Kosher Gochugaru is high quality chili pepper flakes (coarse powder), perfect for traditional Korean cooking and spicing up any non-Korean foods.

The flavor is spicy (6000-10000 SHU) and the color is vibrant. It consists solely of sun dried premium variety red chili peppers with no other ingredients and processed with high food manufacturing standards. The gochugaru is OU kosher certified (ID number OUV7-4EE4D4C) and non-GMO Project verified (ID number C-267279).

It is packed into a BPA-free bottle with a dual shake or pour cap.

Gochugaru is a key spice in kimchi seasoning and many spicy Korean dishes such as tteokbokgi, spicy beef soup, spicy bulgogi, soondubu stew, and spicy cucumber salad. It is also great for adding a delicious spicy kick to many foods such as pasta, soup, stew, stir-fry, pizza and salad.

What is gochugaru

The spicy taste of many Korean foods largely comes down to one key ingredient: gochugaru. Gochugaru is made by drying red chili peppers in the sun and crushing them into flakes or powder. Gochugaru is called Korean chili pepper flakes, or sometimes Korean chili pepper powder, because the Korean word 'garu can be translated into either flake or powder.

Koreans use both coarse and fine grinds depending on the recipe or personal preference. Coarse grind is widely used in kimchi, soups, stews, and stir-fry. Fine grind is typically used for making gochujang (fermented hot pepper paste) or sauce that features a smooth texture, when you don't want people to see the flakes. Fine grind gives a more vibrant color to the food. Coarse grind provides a nice, spicy kick while keeping the flavor integrity of the accompanying ingredients. Some people like to combine the two grinds for a balanced flavor and texture.
