ND filters (Neutral Density) reduce the amount of light reaching the film without affecting the color (ND2 Filter reduces the exposure by 1-stop; ND4 reduces the exposure by 2-stops; ND8 reduces the exposure by 3-stops).
ND filters allow you to have more control of the camera's aperture, exposure time and sensor sensitivity settings, which can produce a shallower depth of field, or achieve a sharper photo.
ND Filters also help improve video quality by introducing a natural motion blur for smoother motion in video in bright daylight situations.
