Helping You Heal On Day One
Tears streamed down my cheek.
The doctor told me that they would need to take off both breasts.
Getting a mastectomy sounded scary, but after weighing the risks I knew that my chances of cancer would be greatly diminished, so I agreed.
On the day of the surgery, my husband and sister drove me to the hospital. I was holding their hands as we walked in. I knew then, that no matter what, I would be okay.
As I woke up after the surgery, it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. My husband looked over at me and smiled. He told me it went perfectly and how beautiful I looked.
My sister handed me a pillow with straps on either side of it. “It's a mastectomy pillow”, she whispered, "it protects your post-breast area while you recover."
The mastectomy pillow became a lifesaver, as I wasn't afraid of bumping into anything. It even held my TV remote while I was being a couch potato. I believe every woman who goes under the knife should be given this post-surgery pillow.
