Miners Mix is a small family-owned business located in Mariposa, home of Yosemite National Park in California. During January in 1848, gold was first discovered nearby, leading to the 1849 gold rush.

Miners Mix is what could have been blended back in the days of the gold miners who used to walk the hills and valleys of this Mother Lode region. There's no MSG, no flavor enhancers, no preservatives, no artificial colors, and no high-fructose nonsense in any of our products. When you taste Miners Mix on a steak, piece of chicken, or some grilled mushrooms, you really do taste the food, just as those tough ol' gold miners did so many years ago. The Miners Mix Story…Australia to the Mother Lode Gold Mines of California

The genesis of Miners Mix occurred back in 2003 during a year-long sabbatical in Australia with our two young children. Our family drove coast to coast all over that wonderful nation, and we even made it to Tasmania. Being native southern Californians, my wife and I are both addicted to Mexican food, a cuisine that is sadly represented in Australia where the "tortilas" were kept in the grocery frozen foods section, and the first ingredient listed in the single salsa brand happened to be sugar. Surprisingly, masa was available in a local gourmet shop and so out of desperation, I taught myself to make corn tortillas by hand and began to make my own refried beans. I also began tinkering with blending spices to make Mexican chorizo.

Upon our return to California, our friends demanded that we start selling the seasonings, rubs and other blends that I'd developed over the years. Despite misgivings and great reluctance to jump into the fray, I decided to take the plunge and so in September of 2009, Miners Mix set up shop with a pop-up and folding table at the local Blazin' Hog BBQ competition. We've never looked back!

Each blend is lovingly crafted with over 45 years of smoking and grilling experience behind it.

Miners Mix blends are a natural evolution of over 45 years of tending charcoal grills and smokers in searing desert heat as well as in snow and sleet.

Great food is a balance of salt and spices combined with the natural flavors of what you're eating. Seasonings are supposed to complement the flavor of the food to which they're applied. I believe that seasonings should not cover up the natural flavor, nor become the primary flavor of what's on the plate. After all, one eats foods for the flavor of the meats and vegetables - not the seasoning.

All recipes are ours. We do not buy someone else's recipe and merely put our labels on the jar.

Most craft spice and seasoning companies utilize large contract packers to actually blend their products under close supervision and hygiene standards. All contract packers also possess databases of recipes they've developed over the years. In the seasoning and rub category it's quite common for these packers to "rent" their recipes to customers who then design a label and paste it on a jar, as if what's inside is their own creation.

We choose not to buy recipe formulations from anyone. Every single blend is unique and proprietary to Miners Mix. Each formulation has been developed in house, sometimes over long periods of time and testing before the recipe is shared with our contract packer to be blended to our specification.

Miners Mix is a result of dissatisfaction with many commercial seasoning blends that tend to be loaded with salt and little else beyond MSG, preservatives and artificial flavors. I have no idea how to blend flavors using flavor enhancers, colors, preservatives, or artificial anything, and so Miners Mix contains none of those.

Pride in our recipes swells when fully 99% of all who taste Miners Mix roll their eyes and remark "OMG! What did you put on this!"
