LEFF Amsterdam Tube Alarm Clock

When Piet Hein Eek started his Tube series for LEFF Amsterdam, his starting point for the Tube Clock’s dial was an extrusion ring. Extrusion molding is a design technique that involves forcing materials through a mold, the extrusion profile is what gives the material its shape. Piet Hein devised a ring like that for the design of the clock face. A good idea can be surprisingly simple – often the simplest solutions have not yet been invented. This clock could have been designed a century ago, it’s actually a textbook example of LEFF Amsterdam’s philosophy: the idea of keeping things normal and down-to-earth, but still extraordinary. The alarm and snooze functions are situated in the back of the Tube to not disrupt the design.

The Brand Behind the Products

We founded LEFF Amsterdam in 2011. After making our debut in the design industry by creating a series of iconic interior timepieces, our focus gradually shifted toward watchmaking. Working from our studio in the city center of Amsterdam, we now create unconventional watches.

It doesn’t stop there. Whenever we have time, we love to make other unconventional things too—for example, clocks and speakers – all with an industrial and refined aesthetic.

In the tradition of dutch design, we believe the concept is king.

In everything we do, we strive to meet the highest possible standards. If that means changing the way things are done, so be it. We respect tradition, but challenge convention.
