Der Fäberwau wächst auf kalkarmen Böden in Südfrankreich. Kurz nach der Blüte wird der Färberwau geerntet und sehr schnell bei hohen Temperaturen getrocknet. Das schnelle Trocknen des Färberwau erhält die Färbekraft und fördert die Qualität. Der Fäberwau färbt Stoffe, Wolle und Öle gelb. Zum Färben von Wolle wird diese mit Alaun (15 ) gebeizt und dann mit 100 g getrocknetem Fäberwau auf 50 g Wolle für 48 Stunden eingweicht. Nach dem Einweichen wird der Färbesud und die Wolle 1 Stunde gesiedet. Dann sollte die Wolle schnellstmöglich getrocknet werden, um ein Braunfärben zu verhindern. Die Farbechtheit ist sehr gut. In der Volksheilkunde wurde der Fäberwau früher als Tee verwendet. Es sind aber heute besser geeignete Kräuter zu bekommen. Der Färberwau stammt aus kontrolliertem Anbau und ist frei von Schadstoffen. Der Färberwau ist mindestens 24 Monate haltbar.
