Kojic acid was originally found during the fermentation process of malting rice for use in the manufacture of sake. Question 1: which concentration of Kojic Acid should I use ? For skin lightening, the recommended safe and effective concentration range is 1-4%. It may go higher in some products, especially the wash-off products, but it could cause irritation and other side effects. Normally, kojic acid is used everyday and takes 1-2 month to see the effect. Question 2: How to mix kojic acid to my skincare product? To mix kojic acid, it need to be dissolved in water first. Be sure to use warm (25-40°C/77-104°F) water since it may lose some of its activity if put into hot water (>40°C/104°F). Kojic acid has tendency to oxidize over time, use vitamin E tocopherol or BHT (Butylated hydroxytoluene) in the cream to reduce oxidation.
