Q: Will the SD4820P work with any laptop device?
A: No, the SD4820P is a driverless USB-C docking station and will only work with laptops that have a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort alt mode or 3.1 gen1/2. Please check our device compatibility list or your laptop system requirements before purchasing.
Q: Can I use my own USB-C cable to connect the dock to my laptop?
A: No, we recommend you use the 1M USB-C cable that came with our docking station due to inconsistencies with other USB-C cables.
Q: What does the “2-Lane/4-Lane” switch under the dock do?
A: This gives the user the option to customize their dock settings for their potential needs. “2-Lane” offers dual 1080p with data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps and “4-Lane” offers dual 4k with data transfer speeds up to 480Mbps.
Q: How many external displays does the SD4820P support natively?
A: 2 external monitors. You get the flexibility of either HDMI & DP or DP & DP
Q: Does the dock require any drivers?
A: No, the dock is plug and play.
Q: I noticed the DP ports say “++”, what does that mean?
A: It means our DP ports support dual-mode and can perform conversions to other video signals like HDMI or DVI. This means you don’t have to spend extra money on an active adapter and can instead, use a passive cable or adapter to convert to other video signals.
Q: Does the SD4820P charge/power my system?
A: Yes, the dock can provide up to 60W of power to charge the host. In order to charge, the system must be connected to the USB-C host port on the back of the dock labeled with the ‘Computer’ icon.
Q: My PC system requires a 130W power adapter; will the dock’s 60W output charge my system?
A: Yes.
Q: Is Wake-on-LAN supported via the Ethernet adapter within the dock?
A: No, Wake-on-LAN is not supported.
Q: Which USB A port will support charging- ie phones or tablets?
A: If you ever need to charge a phone or tablet, please be sure you connect your device to the USB port in the front of the dock, labeled with the ‘Lightning’ icon. The charging port supports 5V/2.4A.
Q: Is there anyway to secure the docking station so it doesn’t get stolen?
A: Yes, the SD4820P comes with our Kensington standard lock slot but the lock itself is not included. The MicroSaver 2.0 Keyed Lock (K65020WW) is compatible with this docking station.
Q: Is there anyways to mount the dock behind my monitor?
A: Yes, the SD4820P comes with VESA mount holes but does not come with a VESA mount. The Kensington Docking Station VESA-Compatible Monitor Mounting Plate (K33959WW) is compatible with this docking station.
