L-Lysine is an essential amino acid, which means the body can't make its own supply. It plays a part in the formation of collagen, a substance important for bones and connective tissues including skin, tendon, and cartilage.

L-Lysine also helps the absorption of calcium to ensure good bone growth. Without enough lysine or any other of the eight essential amino acids, the body cannot build protein to sustain muscle tissue.
