Each Individual Oil Has Specific Benefits
Dr. Ohhira's Essential Living Oils provides the beneficial fats in an ideal balance of Linolenic Acid (Omega-3), Linoleic Acid (Omega-6, especially GLA) and Oleic Acid (Omega-9). We use eight high quality oils from non-GMO plants and seeds:
Flax seed oil – Often recommended as an alternative to fish oil. A well-known source of plant-derived Omega-3, -6, and -9 in a balanced ratio. These omegas are known to help maintain healthy cognitive function, promote heart health, and support general wellness.*
Rice bran oil – A source of antioxidant vitamin E complex and micronutrient components that maintains cellular health in mature adults. Contains tocotrienols, tocopherols, and gamma-oryzanol, which promote heart health, help maintain balanced cholesterol levels already in the normal range, and also support healthy hormonal balance.*
Sunflower seed oil – Provides an appropriate balance of Omega-9 and Omega-6. Together, these balanced omegas promote both cardiovascular health and healthy cognitive function, including memory.*
Avocado oil – Contains both Omega-9 and sitosterol, which help maintain balanced cholesterol levels already in the normal range. These components are likely one of the secrets to the success of the Mediterranean diet.*
Perilla seed oil – Lesser known plant oil from the mint family. A source of heart healthy Omega-3 that may be more efficient than fish oil. Helps maintain balanced cholesterol levels already in the normal range and also promotes breast and colon health. Promotes healthy immune cell activity and balanced cytokinesis throughout the body. Ultimately promotes balanced immune response and cellular health in major organ tissues.*
Japanese tea seed oil – Both a source of healthy fats (similar to olive oil and grapeseed oil) and a source of powerful antioxidants, including vitamin E. Monounsaturated oleic acid, a primary fat in the Mediterranean diet, may comprise up to 88 percent of tea seed's fatty acids. Provides both heart healthy fats and cellular antioxidant support.*
Olive oil – Well-known source of healthy fats. Provides balanced Omega-9 and Omega-6 along with antioxidant polyphenols, all of which promote heart health. The most common cooking oil used in the heart healthy Mediterranean diet.*
Borage seed oil – Comprised of 20-26% gamma-linolenic acid, a fatty acid that the body converts to prostaglandin E1 (PGE1), which is involved in a balanced inflammation process in response to day-to-day movement and exercise. PGE1 promotes healthy blood vessel dilation to transport needed nutrients throughout the body. Ultimately supports joint health and dermal health.*
