Who Are Doodle Braids

For Those Who Walk Their Own Path...

Doodle Braids is a family-run business based in Northumberland, UK. The team includes mother (Naomi), daughter (Ruby) and, sometimes when we're really busy, Grandmother (Lynda).

You'll often see hair wraps being done when you're on holiday, in fact sometimes they're called 'beach braids'.

With hair wrap stalls charging by the inch, it was costing me a fortune as my daughter had really long hair! It's much cheaper and a lot more fun to do them yourself.

That's why I set up Doodle Braids in 2012. My daughter was only 8 at the time. All her friends soon knew where to come for their hair wraps!

She has always been the model for our packaging. You'll see her face on some of our kits (much to her embarrassment!) She's now 19. and very much part of the business.

Design your own unique hair braids and wraps

Create simple designs, like stripes, or more complex designs like 'The Chinese Staircase' – it's up to you. Choose your colours and choose the design to suit your outfit or the occasion. Add charms to bring some extra magic to your hair wrap.

Make your wraps either in your own hair or double some yarn over (to leave a loop at the top), braid it, and make a hair wrap around that. Add a clip through the top loop of your wrap extension and you've made a hair wrap that you can clip in and use again and again.

The History of Hair Wraps

Hair wrapping is a practice that has its roots in ancient Egypt!. Egyptian women wove coloured threads, ribbons, beads and flowers into their hair braids. The wealthier Egyptians wove tubes of gold on each braid. Soon, the rest of the ancient world were taking up hair wrapping - the practice became very fashionable in medieval Europe.

Hair wrapping became hugely popular in the sixties, spreading around the world from the beaches of California - the hippie revolution!

Wraps are Easy when you Know How...


Use the hair protector, braid the hair The hair protector in your kit helps you keep stray hair out of the way. Take a small section of hair, place the hair protector at the top and braid.	Use the threader or make a knot You can make a knot at the top with your chosen threads or you can use the threader tool to put the ends of the threads through the top of your braid, and then you can just wrap over them.	Start the wrap Start your wrap and alternate colours down the length of your braid until all the hair is covered.	Keep wrapping and make patterns Get creative with patterns and stripes.
