Brown Bear Coffee & Free The Bears Partnership

Brown Bear Coffee donates 5% of every sale to make a difference to the quality of life of sun bears and Asiatic black bears, or moon bears. Sun bears are the world's smallest bear species, often kept as illegal pets. Moon bears are used in bear bile farming, a terrible practice where bile is taken from the gall bladder of living bears to be used in traditional medicine.

Sun bears and moon bears are keystone species, vital to healthy forests. Populations are rapidly declining due to poaching and the destruction of forests. Despite laws to protect both species, poachers will kill mother bears and sell the cubs into the illegal wildlife trade, where they spend their entire lives in tiny cages.

Free The Bears is Brown Bear's chosen charity. They operate rescued bear sanctuaries in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. The BBC created a show called 'Bears about the House' which followed the work of Free the Bears and the progress of a rescued sun bear cub called Mary.
