What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis pain is caused by inflammation in the thin layer of tissue that supports the arch of the foot. Inflammation of the plantar fascia band causes heel pain (often mistaken as heel spurs), especially in the morning before the foot has time to stretch out.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis can be caused by a number of factors. Flat feet, high arches, poor shoe support, shoes that don’t fit properly, sudden weight increase, and improper athletic training can all contribute to the problem.

Pain Levels

Typically with plantar fasciitis, the pain is worse when first getting out of bed or is noticeable at the beginning of an activity and gets better as the body warms up. Prolonged standing may cause pain as well. In more sever cases, the pain may get worse toward the end of the day. Other indications of plantar fasciitis are extensor tendinitis, peroneal tendinitis, posterior tibial tendinitis, or achilles tendinitis.
