How it Works: Expanding Color with Binocular Rivalry

In 1855, optical scientist and mathematician James Clerk Maxwell invented the first color blind glasses when he theorized that a pair of glasses equipped with two lenses of opposing color tints, a person with color blindness could gain an added sensory dimension of color due to the phenomenon of binocular rivalry. However, the concept has remained elusive due to the difficulty in using such a device in practical conditions. The patent-pending VIOSENSE lens technology is the first to use wavelength selective polarization to create a differential signal between the eyes based upon Maxwell's binocular rivalry concept, providing an dimension of color perception when viewing a compatible polarized display device.
