My name is Joshua Esnard, and I am a Black inventor of haircut and grooming tools. I was born in the tiny but beautiful Caribbean country named Saint Lucia. My first patent idea came along when I was just 13 years old. After many attempts to cut my own hair and as an untrained teenager, I was highly unsuccessful! Given this problem, I tapped into my creative side and invented a lining stencil guide which later became The Cut Buddy Hair and Beard Shaping Tool.
The Cut Buddy went viral in 2016 and is currently in over a million homes. It has been featured in Black Enterprise, HGTV, Forbes, GQ, NPR: How I Built This, HGTV Self Made, we even got to pitch our idea on Shark Tank in Season 9.
For too long the haircut industry has needed innovation around the multicultural consumer! We all have different hair and different needs!
As a company, The Cut Buddy aims to address the wider issue of creating affordable products and kits that make cutting and styling your hair or a family members hair easy. I understand your struggle. I have had braids, waves, afro, ingrown hairs, facial hair and bald hair styles! I have tested and used almost every product out there for hair and skin. That is why my heart is close to your experience and to your particular struggle. I was you at one point in my life.
Our products will include shaping guides, clippers, trimmers, shavers, and other accessories to make a home haircut easy! We also look to release body butters, oils, and washes in the near future.
We are very much still that struggling teenage inventor at heart, but we are quickly growing into a research company for the multicultural haircut industry.
