What is Brown Bulgur Wheat?

Brown Bulgur is a 100% whole grain red wheat manufactured into a medium brown coloured bulgur product that is higher in protein than wheat bulgur(white/yellow).

The difference between yellow/white and brown bulgur :

Yellow Bulgur: It is the most common variety of bulgur wheat in the world. Yellowish colour is due to its raw material and durum wheat's natural colour.

Brown Bulgur: Brown bulgur is produced from red wheats. It is softer but has a stronger taste to the yellow bulgur.

Is bulgur wheat healthier than rice?

Yes, dieticians say, bulgur wheat is healthier than rice. This is based on the cereal grain having higher quantities of nutrients than rice in certain areas.

“Bulgur wheat is higher in fibre and protein in nutritional comparison to rice,” says some dieticians.

How to Cook Aksoy Brown Bulgur Wheat?

  1. Place 1 tbsp of olive oil and 1/2 tbsp of butter in saucepan.
  2. Add Aksoy Brown Bulgur Wheat and sauté almost 2min.
  3. Add 2 cups of boiling water and 1 tsp of salt.
  4. Cook over low heat for 15 minutes Cover and simmer until stock is absorbed.
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. Cover and let stand for 15 min.
  7. You can serve it with yogurt, hummus or kind of meze.

MAKE A BULGUR PILAF WITH TOMATOES

Ingredients:

  • Aksoy Brown Bulgur
  • Tomato & Tomato Paste
  • Onion
  • Green Pepper
  • Chickpeas
  • Salt
  • Aksoy Sweet Pepper Flakes
  • Black Pepper
Tips For Bulgur

  • Served with chopped salad, and cucumber yogurt salad
  • Bulgur will double in volume when it cooks so make sure you use a large pot.
  • Don’t miss black peppers. Black pepper complements bulgur.

Instructions:

Cook The Chicken (Optional)

Cook the chicken or beef in advance. Use their liquid in place of water. Chicken legs and quarter took about 40 minutes to cook on medium heat. Use a strainer to separate the chicken from its water.

  6. Add the bulgur, chop tomatoes and stir for 2-3 mins. Then add cooked chicken.
  7. Add in your cooking liquid (water/the liquid from the chicken, stock(chicken broth) or a combination), salt and black pepper.
  8. When it comes to a boil, put the lid on and cook on low heat until all the water is absorbed.
  9. Ready to serve, fluff it with a fork sprinkle toasted almonds or fresh parsley on top.
